Summer Solstice Camping Guide

Rewild, Reset, and Celebrate the Longest Day of the Year

At Basecamp Brooklyn, we believe every season calls for a little ceremony—but summer solstice hits different.

This is your annual invitation to stretch out, tune into nature’s rhythm, and feel the sun at full strength. And what better way to celebrate the longest day of the year than by sleeping under the stars—especially with fire-cooked meals, music, and a community gathering to honor it all?

Join us for Solstice Sizzle: Midsummer Feast + Fire, our weekend-long camping celebration in the Catskills, June 20–22. Come for the food, stay for the firelight, leave with a soul reset.

Whether you’re joining us at Basecamp Brooklyn Estates or heading out on your own, this guide will help you plan a solstice camping trip that’s part reset, part adventure, and 100% aligned with the sun.

🌲 Why Camp for the Solstice?

City life moves fast. But the solstice doesn’t.

This is the Earth’s long, golden pause—when the days are longest, the nights are warmest, and life feels wide open. Camping during solstice lets you:

  • Reconnect with nature in a real, embodied way

  • Watch the sunrise and sunset, and embrace all the moments in between

  • Mark the season with intention (and maybe a little firelight magic)

  • Eat, rest, and move slowly—on your own rhythm

And the best part? It doesn’t have to be complicated. Grab your gear (or rent it from us), pack a cooler, and head for the woods.

Solstice Rituals (Campground Edition)

You don’t have to be “woo” to welcome the sun. These low-key solstice rituals can help you feel more connected to the season—and yourself.

1. Light a Fire with Intention

Bonfires and solstice go hand in hand. Whether it’s a matchstick or a fire pit, light it with a moment of pause. What are you releasing from the first half of the year? What are you calling in for the second?

2. Make a Foraged Nature Altar

Collect natural elements (fallen branches, flowers, stones, herbs) and create a small altar on a stump, blanket, or picnic table. Think of it as art-meets-nature-meets-therapy.

3. Watch the Sunrise (or Sunset)

Set your alarm for sunrise—or gather for sunset—and step barefoot onto the earth. Breathe deep. This is a literal reset.

4. Brew Sun Tea at Camp

Toss herbs or tea bags in a glass jar with water, set it in the sun while you hike or rest, and come back to a solar-infused drink that feels like golden medicine. Get the recipe here.
